Primary Functions

The “Land Tenure and Development” Portal was designed to allow easy, diversified (research articles, methodology tools, operational studies), and crosscutting (in terms of disciplines) access to information. It is organised in four major sections.

  • Run by research teams, the Analysis and Debates section offers a wide range of scientific documents that provide the keys to understanding in the major fields of land issues :
    • Rural land access dynamics: land tenure regulations and distribution. (UR 95 "Land Regulations"/IRD)
    • Access to land and housing in urban areas. (to be determined)
    • Decentralisation and territorial governance of land tenure and natural resources: institutional framework, political stakes, practices. (LAJP Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne)
    • Land tenure and natural resource management interventions: conception, implementation, effectiveness, impacts. (GRET and CIRAD)
    • Land tenure and natural resource management policies: Political economics, production processes, impacts.   (INRA and CIHEAM/IAMM)
    • Analysis and study of land tenure: methodology stakes. (UR 95 “Land Regulations”/IRD and INRA)
    • Stakes and debates for renewed policies: how to meet contemporary challenges? (AGTer)
  • The Experience and Know-How section provides access to a series of experiences, proposed by operational players, and offers detailed information on their practices.
  •  To base your work on precise definitions, identify the legal framework in a country where you would like to intervene, find people with skills in a given subject, and accompany your reflections, missions and projects, the Tools section provides you with access to a set of documentary services, either directly or via partners’ sites :
    • Summaries of legislative and institutional frameworks for land and natural resource management in a series of African countries and Madagascar
    • Lexicons
    • Bibliographic databases
    • Directory of skills
  • To be regularly informed of events, major policy advances, and new publications, the News section provides an operational news service :
    • Agenda : conferences, seminars, workshops, training;
    • New Publications;
    • A review of news published in the local press.
